So much privilege education, so little knowledge
So much privilege education, so little knowledge
‘‘Education should be a transformative journey, not just a checklist of achievements.’’
In today’s world, we often hear discussions about privilege—especially in the realm of education. It’s a complex topic that invites us to explore not just the advantages that some individuals enjoy, but also the gaps in knowledge and understanding that can arise despite these advantages.
To understand the topic better, we must know about the difference between education and knowledge. Only by knowing these terms, we can conclude how there is so much privilege education and so little knowledge.
Education and Knowledge; Same or Different?
Education is basically the process of acquiring knowledge but now it has been changed into learning specific books and getting good grades.
On the other hand, knowledge is getting to know about various things to become a good citizen and a well being.
How is education and knowledge different? If we observe the education systems all around the world, the typical education system is implemented in the maximum of their schools. They are providing education which is curriculum based and grades decide the position of the students. Whether he/she gained something or not, whether his/her moral values are down, only his/her good academic results matter.
While knowledge is something totally different. It’s not just to gain good marks but also to implement the skills or moral values which one learned by getting an education.
Now to conclude, if there is so much privilege education with so little knowledge, we will understand whether education is a right or a privilege?
Is education a right or a privilege?
Privilege is a special right provided to a person or a group based on their socioeconomic status, race, gender etc. In simple words if you have wealth then you are going to get education with all its facilities.
Our discussion is about ‘ Is education a right or a privilege? To find out its answer we must know the importance of education. Through education we learn
what is right and what is wrong. It tells about how to be a good human being enriched with moral values. Even if we want a happy living and the easiest way to earn, we must be educated. Most importantly it teaches us how to be a good citizen and how to communicate in a society.
We can conclude from this discussion, education must be a right not a privilege. It is the basic need of all human beings to live in a society peacefully and gently.
Is privilege education providing enough knowledge?
Now-a-days education has become a privilege. It has become very expensive for a normal wage citizen.
‘Did you know 262 million children and young people around the world who are out of school, not because they do not want to be there, but because they are simply not afforded the chance.’
But the question here arises is ‘Is privilege education providing enough knowledge?’. If we take a look at privilege education systems, they are highly expensive and provide curriculum based education. They only teach a specific course of books and take tests for the evaluation of students. They don't consider the moral values of students.
In the same way students just focus on their grades instead of learning something new and adapting to it. In this case students are just leaving the schools with degrees on their hands instead of knowledge in their hearts. That's why we see crimes are gradually increasing because we fail as a tutor to provide our students enough knowledge.
Education should be free for everyone:
“It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education.”
Nelson Mandela
From the above discussion, we arrived at the point where we must demand that education should be free for everyone. Education is the fundamental right of each and every person regardless of religion, race, culture or socioeconomic status. It is necessary for every human being to adapt to society and communicate well. It is the right for everyone to live a peaceful and gentle life by knowing the principles of living a respectful life.
